A Who's Who of World Mythology : Allah

The Islamic name for the Judeo-Christian-Islamic deity is Allah. Allah is derived from the Semitic El, the creator of Earth and giver of Water. Allat is his female counter part, equated with Ereshkigal. Allah was the supreme deity in Arabia before the arrival of Islam, though not the only deity. The prophet Muhammad adopted Allah as the one true god and declared it blasphemous to worship any other.
