Some sources name her has an Egyptian goddess, while others place her sphere of influence among the Hittites and Sumerians/Babylonians. According to some Jewish traditions, she is Jehovah’s divorced partner. Some of her worshipers settled Hamath in Syria, while another group settled in Palestine, founding Amathus.
