A Who's Who of World Mythology : Anunitu

Anunitu (Anunitum) or Antu (Antum) is one of the most ancient goddesses of Mesopotamia. She herself was a version of an older Sumerian goddess Ki, daughter of Anshar and Kishar, and personification of the Earth and Underworld. Worshipped from her temple at Sippar until the sixth century BCE, she was later merged with the Mother Goddess Ishtar. As the consort of Anu, she held the dominant position at the Babylonian Akitu festival until the second century BCE. Anunitu is the mother of Enlil.
