It is getting increasingly harder to find time to write these little journal entries! Tonight I have to write up a preliminary draft of a workplan -- which is basically a proposal. That will take a while... I need more sleep!!! Such is life as a student though.
I didn't get much sleep last night, either. My throat is a lot better though! It does not hurt nearly as bad as it did. I hope this trend continues. Last night I was up late putting the chat thingee on my webpage, which will work in lieu of ICQ. I can't put ICQ on here cause I am just a lowly user on the network.
This morning I had class -- meteorology class again. More review, yay! Mary Ann also went over what our workplans should be like, which was pretty helpful. Shawna, Ed, and I (all REU kids) took a truck out to the tower after that but that was a big waste of time. We get out there at around 11:00 and leave for lunch at 11:30! I had problems sending a fax from this crazy place. The only person who knows how to use the fax machines around here was thankfully working in the administration office at 1:00 today, so my frustrations were ended then. Happy-happy.
After lunch, Grandma and Grandpa Dorking arrived to get mom. I showed them my luxurious cabin and took them out to the tower. It was pretty cool that they got to see that in their short visit here! It was nice to see them again, and I will be seeing them again shortly for their 50th wedding anniversary. They left around 2:30.
I tried to keep busy out at the tower but there wasn't a whole lot for me to do because I can't do anything even remotely strenuous. I did help get a big red box up the tower though; I got to press the UP and DOWN buttons! That was the most exciting part of my day. That box was pretty darn heavy! They were using a pulley system to get it up there, and the winch on the ground was making horrible noises... every time it did I jumped because I thought it was going to rip right out of the ground!!! I cleared an escape path though, so I could run if I had to. :o) That's a big tower and that was a darn big box.
Tonight I discussed my role in Jon's project and how to set up my workplan. That is going to be quite a task, that I will have to complete TONIGHT!!!! AHH! It'll have to be a rough draft. Ha ha, very rough. It is definitely giving me a better understanding of what is going on though, and what needs to get done and when!
Entrance to the Computer Lab
This is the main computer lab where everyone can work. I know of a secret lab though, that only the research people can use! hee hee hee... secret lab!!! |
Flowers!
There are some really cute flowers all around here, fuchia ones and white ones. I think they are sweetpea flowers or something like that. |
White Flowers!
More cute flowers... these ones have some pink in the center. |
Road.
One of the roads on camp, nice and sandy. It runs by some classrooms (on the right and left). Cars really turn up the dust around here, very nice for that computer lab (not too far away). |
Cabins in the Woods
Some cabins on the hill, this picture is taken looking down the hill into the lake! |
