My Braindumps: some questions are not exactly the same with the real one but the analogy is similar. Get the explanation and understand it. If you want some more information go to YANCY’s MCSE Page

Question 1 Suppose the following situation exists :

Your company have 3 office. The headquarter is located in New York. It has branch offices in Tokyo and Hong Kong. Each of the three offices is network. Recently, your company has been developing a cross office projects that involve teams member from difference office. Each office needs to access required resource from other office.

Required result:
You must implement a network solution which would offer WAN communications between sites.

Optional desired results:
The WAN connection needs to support about 256 Kbps of data.
The WAN connection needs to be able to continue operate at 256 Kbps even if one of the WAN links should fail.

Proposed solution:
Use two 256 Kbps lease line: one between New York and Hong Kong, one between Hong Kong and Tokyo. Use two 28.8Kbps modem to connect site New York and Hong Kong and Hong Kong and Tokyo.

Which results does the proposed solution produce ?

A. The proposed solution produces the required result and produces both of the optional desired
B. The proposed solution produces the required result and produces only 1 of the optional desired
C. The proposed solution produces the required result but does not produces any of the optional
D. The proposed solution does not produce the required result.

Implementation Answer : B
You should use three 256 Kbps connection: New York to Hong Kong, Hong Kong to Tokyo and Tokyo to New York. In this case when the 256 K lines fail. The redundancy 28.8 Kpbs modem line cannot operate in 256 Kbps. So the second optional requirement failed.

Question 2 Suppose the following situation exists :
You are responsible for setting up the network on your client's office. Your client has more than 30 employees. Each employee’s computer must be able to access the network resource.

Required result:
You must choose an extremely reliable network topology with built-in redundancy.

Optional desired results:

You need to minimize the initial setup cost.
You need to minimize the maintenance cost.

Proposed solution:
Implement a bus topology.

Implementation Answer : D
If you need an extremely reliable network with redundancy built in, you might want to consider either a ring or a star wired ring network. For a small (5-10 users) network, a bus is usually economical to install initially but may be expensive to maintain because troubleshooting and reconfiguring take time. On a larger network (20 or more users), however, a star bus may cost more initially than a bus because of the equipment (a hub), but will significantly less expensive to maintain in the long run.

Question 3 Suppose the following situation exists :
Your company is Tokyo based, and has branch offices in Los Angeles and New York. Each office is networked with 10 Mbps Ethernet in a coaxial cable. Recently, each office needs to access required resource from other office.

Required result:
You must implement a networking solution which would offer WAN communications between sites.

Optional desired results:
The WAN connection needs to support about 1.5 Mbps of data.
The WAN connection needs to able to continue operations at 1.5 Mbps even if one of the WAN links should fail.

Proposed solution:
Use two T1 connection lines: one between Tokyo and Los Angeles, one between Los Angeles and New York.

You should use a T1 link at each site because it can carry both voice and data simultaneously. However, there are only two T1 lines and there are no redundancy path. You should use three T1 connections: one between Tokyo and Los Angeles, one between Los Angeles and New York, and one between New York and Tokyo to satisfy the second optional results.

Question 4 Suppose the following situation exists :
Your company is Tokyo based, and has branch offices in Los Angeles and New York. Each office is networked with 10 Mbps Ethernet in a coaxial cable. Recently, each office needs to access required resource from other office.

Required result:
You must implement a networking solution which would offer WAN communications between each office.

Optional desired results:
The WAN connection needs to support at least 256 Kbps of data, and several analog telephone coversations between offices.
The WAN connection needs to able to continue operations even if one of the WAN links should fail.

Proposed solution :
Use three dedicated analog connection lines: one between Tokyo and Los Angeles, one between Los Angeles and New York, and one between New York and Tokyo.

Answer : B
The required result is met. However, you should use a T1 link at each site because it can carry both voice and data simultaneously. Analog lines cannot satisfy this requirement. So the first optional result cannot be met. When one line fail, each site can still communicate by using the rest of line. The second optional result is met.

Question 5 Suppose the following situation exists :
Your company has computers and networked in different architectures. The accounting department has a Windows NT Server LAN. Purchasing department has a workgroup running on Windows for Workgroups. The R&D department uses SGI workstation. The marketing department is networked with Novell. The management wants to implement a workflow system to smooth the inter-department operation.

Required result:
You must implement a network model that is appropriate for your company.

Optional desired results:
The network needs to enforce security.
The network should be allowed to expand in the future.

Proposed solution :
Implement a centralized network with dedicated servers. Implement user-level security on the network.

which results does the proposed solution produce ?

A. The proposed solution produces the required result and produces both of the optional desired
B. The proposed solution produces the required result and produces only 1 of the optional desired
C. The proposed solution produces the required result but does not produces any of the optional
D. The proposed solution does not produce the required result.

Answer : A
Number of user and security is a point for choosing a network model. A server-based network should be implemented if there are more than 10 users and a security is an issue. A peer-to-peer network is suitable for less than 10 computer on a network and security is not a issue.

Question 6 Suppose the following situation exists :
Your company’s sales person and engineer are located in separate buildings. The sales person’s PC-compatibles computer is networked with a twisted-pair cable in a peer-to-peer network. The engineering staff has a computers including SGI workstation and PC-compatibles. Those computers are not networked. Your boss would like to restructure the whole network so that they can implement a workflow program and standardize on the type of network used in both building to minimize the maintenance cost

Required result :
You want to standardize the network architecture and the network must be able to operates at a 10 Mbps transmission rate.

Optional desired results:
You want to keep to minimize the cost.
You want to be able to expand the network in the future.

Proposed solution:
Implement Ethernet 10Base2

Which results does the proposed solution produce ?

A. The proposed solution produces the required result and produces both of the optional desired
B. The proposed solution produces the required result and produces only 1 of the optional desired
C. The proposed solution produces the required result but does not produces any of the optional
D. The proposed solution does not produce the required result.

Answer : B
Ethernet 10BaseT is the suggested solution in this case. Firstly, it is easy to troubleshoot and install.
10BaseT uses twisted-pair cable and is the least expensive type of network because many building in U.S are prewired for twisted-pair telephone systems. 10Base2 can fulfil the transmission speed 10Mbps but the cost of installing coaxial cable and the difficult to troubleshoot property make it does not satisfy the cost requirement on the optional requirement.

Question 7 Suppose the following situation exists :
After a rapid expand on your Ethernet TCP/IP network. The network performance is becoming worse as more and more computers are added to your network.

Required result :
You must choose a type of connectivity device that reduce traffic bottlenecks resulting from an excessive number of attached computers.

Optional desired result :
You want to resolve broadcast storms
You want to provide traffic filtering based on network (hardware) addresses.
You want to expand the distance of a segment.

Proposed solution :
Implement bridges to segment the network without suffer from attenuation.

Answer : C
Attenuation means weakening or distorting of a transmitted signal as it goes further from its point of origin. Bridges can perform the same functions as repeaters, but they can also reduce traffic by segmenting the network. Bridges work at the Data Link layer to extend a network’s distance and segment network traffic based on Media Access Control layer addresses. Bridges cannot recognize network hardware addresses. Bridges pass all broadcasts, and therefore cannot resolve broadcast storms. In this case, you need to implement a router.

Question 8 Suppose the following situation exists :
After a rapid expand on your Ethernet TCP/IP network. The network performance is becoming worse as more and more computers are added to your network.

Required result :
You must choose a type of connectivity device that reduce traffic bottlenecks resulting from an excessive number of attached computers.

Optional desired results:
You want to resolve broadcast storms.
You want to provide traffic filtering.
You want to expand the distance of a segment without suffer from attenuation.

Proposed solution :
Implement repeaters to segment the network.

Answer : D
Attenuation means weakening or distorting of a transmitted signal as it goes further from its point of origin. Repeaters are the simplest components used to expand a LAN. They work at the OSI Physical layer to boost signals and pass them along. Repeaters are the least expensive way to expand a network, but they are limited to connecting two segments. You do not want to use repeaters if there is heavy network traffic.

Question 9 Suppose the following situation exists :
You company’s computer has just networked with a server-based network. The staffs of your company were used to working with information on their own computers. They faces the problem that all users were getting into each other's file, sometimes deleting and copying sensitive material.

Required result :
You must implement a security model for your company.

Optional desired results :
You want to restrict former staff to accessing the network resources.
You want to ensure that authorized staffs have access to sensitive data within a limited time periods.

Proposed solution:
Implement user-level security. Require anyone working with sensitive data to automatically change their password every 30 days. Delete or disable any inactive accounts.

Answer : B
The level of security you need depends on a variety of factors including the size of the organization and sensitivity of data.
There are two type of security model.
Share-level security is also called password-protected shares. Each user has control on their shared resources by assigning a password to a resource of network as access control. Access to the shared resource is granted when a user have the appropriate password.
Another type of security model is user-level security.
Implementing user-level security involves assigning certain rights on a user-by-user basis by the Administrator. User-level security provides a higher level of control and it is usually preferred model in larger organizations. Given the situation described, it is clear that share-level security will not be sufficient.
So the required result is met. Changing the password every 30 days and disable the inactive account can only fulfill the first optional requirement but not restrict the user to access the data within a limited period.

Question 10 Suppose the following situation exists :
Your company have 2 office in 2 difference cities. Each of the two offices has a network. Recently, your company has been developing a cross office projects that involve teams member from difference office. Each office needs to access required resource from other office.

Required result :
You must implement a network solution which would offer about 1.5Mbps connection between sites.

Optional desired results :
You need to keep the cost minimum.
The WAN connection needs to be able to continue operate at 1.5 even if one of the WAN links should fail.

Proposed solution :
Setup 8 28.8 kbps modem pool on each site (total 16 modems). Use Windows NT 4.0 MultiLink feature to connect two office.

Answer : D
8 modem provides totally about 230 Kbps bandwidth. Does not provide the required T1 connection. T1 is the standard digital line service. It is a point-to-point transmission technology that use two-wire pairs to transmit a full-duplex signal. It provides transmission rates of 1.544 Mbps and can carry both voice and data. T1 lines are among the most costly of all WAN links.

Question 11 Suppose the following situation exists :
Your company’s sales person and engineer are located in separate buildings. The distance between two buildings are about 600 meters. The sales person’s PC-compatibles computer is networked with a twisted-pair cable in a peer-to-peer network. The engineer has a computers including SGI workstation and PC-compatibles on an Ethernet network. Your boss would like to implement a workflow application for sales and engineer. So you need to connect the engineer’s network to the sales person’s network.

Required result :
You must connect the network between the two buildings.

Optional desired results:
The network should be easy to install.
The network should be immune to electronic interference.

Proposed solution:
Implement Fiber-optic Ethernet.

Answer : B
A fiber-optic Ethernet solution (10BaseF) should be implemented. Because only fiber-optic cable can offer the distance capabilities needed to cover 600 meters without using repeater. Fiber-optic cables are not susceptible to interference, and can support transmission rates of 100 Mbps or more. However, they are very difficult to install and are not flexible and the cost is high.

Now its time for you to answer it on your own and do some research on this. Good LUCK !!!!
