The ventral nerve cord is a vital part of the earthworm's nervous system in that it connects the ganglia in each segment of its body with the cerebral ganglia, the brain. There is a pair of ganglia in each segment which work together to coordinate movement due to the ventral nerve cord.(Loretto).
