RFAS Ranks:
RFAS (Rebel Force Assault Squad) is organized into ranks, much like the U.S. military. The highest rank one can attain is the rank of a Lieutenant General, however, the founders are ranked as "Generals". To advance in rank, RFAS members must show they are worthy by showing the Generals their skills with weaponry or leadership in battle. Remember that each lower-ranking individual must obey every higher-ranking squad member, just like the U.S. Army chain-of-command. Here are the ranks, in order, from lowest to highest:
Private:
This rank is the lowest beginning rank for RFAS. All new recruits start at this rank, regardless of skill or leadership level. Privates are the grunts of the Squad, and can perform any task. However, they must answer to the Platoon leaders and Assistant leaders, who will be Lieutenants and Sergeants, respectively.
Corporal:
At the Corporal rank, squad members are beginning to be recognized for their skills in combat or leadership qualities. Corporals are allowed to command Privates in situations of dire need; however, a Sergeant or Lieutenant will do the job, unless they are not present (i.e. Dead =).
Sergeant:
When a RFAS member is promoted to the Sergeant rank, he/she is being recognized for their leadership ability, and, perhaps to a lesser extent, their skill in battle. Sergeants are always an Assistant leader of the platoon, and provide advice and leadership on and off the battlefield. However, they must always answer to their superiors, the Platoon Leaders (Lieutenants).
Lieutenant:
The Lieutenant rank is when a RFAS member really gains power within the squad. Not only is he/she a platoon leader, but they now have a rather loud voice in Squad affairs. As a Platoon Leader, they are required to carry out the Commanding Officer's orders in any way they see fit. The entire platoon must follow these orders, or RFAS's battle plans will fall into disarray. Lieutenants can be specialists in any field of weaponry, but must be charismatic and respected leaders within the RFAS community. They use their experience and leadership to complete the Commanding Officer's orders (for example, if a platoon was to capture a building under the cover-fire of another building, the Commanding Officer would give the order to capture the building, and the platoon leader would carry out the order using any effective method he sees).
Captain:
The Captain rank is a mark of true leadership and charisma. These Lieutenants have been promoted to Captains because of their supreme command in battle, and the ability to use RFAS tactics to adapt to any situation. Captain is simply a mark of achievement; an upgrade to the Lieutenant rank.
Major:
Majors have a true voice within RFAS. They help decide important issues within the Squad, and help take on the responsibility of practicing with lower ranking officers and grunts. They help co-ordinate practices with the lower ranks, as well as provide leadership during battle. Majors still serve as platoon leaders. However, the true responsibility comes with the next rank...
Brigadier General to Lieutenant General:
When a RFAS member attains the rank of Brigadier General or Lieutenant General, they become a Unit Commander. Unit Commanders command two platoons within a strike force, and there may be two Unit Commanders, so, therefore, there may only be two members who reach this rank. They have the strongest voice within RFAS Non-commisioned officers (non-founding members), and have the greatest influence on the Generals. Unit Commanders issue orders to the Platoon leaders, who in turn carry out the orders within their platoon. The two unit commanders will work together with the four Supreme Commanders in the Command Platoon, who will sit further away from enemy lines and issue orders as needed.
General:
Generals are the founders of RFAS. They have a supreme command over everyone in the battlefield, because they have a specific plan of action to adhere to. Everyone must obey the Generals, or the entire Strike force will fall into anarchy. They update the webpage, organize practices, matches, and give awards. They also promote Squad members, and make the necessary rules and procedures so RFAS stays diciplined, powerful, and ready for battle.
Platoons:
Platoons are a type of unit used by the U.S. Army and Marines. A platoon is made up of a small number of men, usually 5-7, that specialize in different forms of weaponry, such as Sniping, Assault, Support-fire (machine gunning), or Heavy Weaponry (S.A.M. rockets, like A.A. support). In RFAS, a platoon is a unit that functions independantly, but still attempts to complete the Supreme Commander's overall objectives. We would like Platoons to be flexible and adaptable, because there is only so much control a Command Platoon can provide for the entire Strike Force. Platoons will be trained as individual units that work towards completing the overall objective. Platoons that are assigned on the "Members" page are not final; most likely they will be mixed in a giant blender to form a Roster before each match. It is important, though, that we keep these platoons as they are for the purpose of organization. However, the roster for each match will be different, because the number of players will not be certain, as well as the enemy's tactics. However, although Platoons may be "mixed and matched", there will still be "assault" platoons in every match, and "Support" platoons, etc. There are a few different types of Platoons within RFAS, and their specific goals and requirements [note: these decriptions are just to provide an idea of what each specific "Support" or "Assault" etc. Platoon will be doing.]
Assault Platoons
These Platoons are made up of individuals that specialize in relatively close-quarter combat with enemies. They include 3 or more Assault Specialits, one Sniper, one Support-fire Specialist, one Vehicle Specialist, and one Heavy-weaponry specialist. These platoons will do most of the direct attacking of RFAS, such as capturing a location, or making an assault on an enemy base. These will be the fastest-moving teams within RFAS, and need to act accordingly. The Vehicle Specialist within an Assault Squad will be manning some sort of ground-support vehicle, such as a Jeep or a Tank, that will help take pressure off of the infantry as they push forward.
Reserve Platoons
A Reserve Platoon is a platoon composed of a number of RFAS Newcomers. They will still be lead by a lieutenant, but they will not be used often in matches. A Reserve Platoon will be trained as an Assault Platoon, but will not see as much battle as an official Assault Platoon. If they are part of a battle, they will be kept in reserve until other members of the Strike Force are lost.
Support Platoons
Support platoons will (obviously) support the other platoons in battle. Support platoons will include a number of Support-fire Specialists (who specialize in suppression-fire and artillary fire), as well as a number of Heavy-weapon Specialists (who will provide both Anti-tank [A.T.] and Anti-air [A.A.] support to other Platoons). These platoons will be very important to the overall RFAS strategy of organization. There will most likely be one Support Platoon per match.
Vehicle Platoons
Vehicle platoons are made up of Vehicle Specialists who provide both reconnaisance and fire-support to the RFAS Strike Force. They will man the Jeep, Tank, Air Transport, Bombers, Fighters, and other vehicles that will support our main forces on the ground. These platoons will be trained specially by one General/Lieutenant General to provide effective A.A. and A.T support, as well as fire-support on the ground. They will bomb the enemy bases, clear the skies of enemy fighters and bombers, transport the troops to the front, and provide fire-support to our infantry teams. There will most likely be one Vehicle Platoon per match, but another one will be trained in reserve if space allows.
Command Platoons
Command Platoons consist of the RFAS leaders, who survey the battle from behind our lines and provide fire-support to our infantry teams. We keep the supply lines going, and issue orders to the Unit Commanders/Platoon Leaders. At times the Command Platoon may decide to make an assault on an enemy position-- remember, we will be an elite platoon composed of diverse specialists, and can function as an effective unit alone or as part of the larger group.
Leagues and Matches
RFAS will be a participant in a League for TF2 and Halo, and Tribes 2 because their release dates are so far apart. Although our main purpose is just to have a good time playing a game, playing in a League will be even more fun, and provide a greater challenge to us all. It helps us perform as a group, and test our skills against another organized opponent.
We currently belong to a Halo league and a Tribes 2 league Check these pages frequently for updates.
