Ostara Ritual
A symbol of the Wheel or pentacle is on the altar, alongside burning candles.The altar is decorated with seasonal flowers and small plants. In the centre of the Circle is, either a cauldron with some kind of material that can be easily lit, or a bonfire. If doing this ritual indoors, of course, the cauldron is appropriate. If the ritual is to be outside, then the bonfire should be prepared in advance.
(This can be done by a solitary as well, but they must take over all roles, and use the cauldron, as bonfires are not safely used by one individual. Things can too easily get out of hand.
{The Solitary casts the circle, then stands in the center.}
The High Priestess casts the Circle, and then goes to stand in the West, and the High Priest stands in the East. Both will be holding wands.The group will now all say :
From the North comes the Earth that nourishes life.
From the East comes the wind that carries the beloved seed.
From the South comes the warmth that kindles the fire of life.
From the West comes the water that quenches its thirst and need.
Now only the High Priestess and High Priest say this together:
The End is over.
This is the beginning.
The seasons come and go.
With Winter quickly fleeing
And making way for the birth of a new season
The God has arisen,
The sky now new, blazes with
the promise of love and springtime.
The Earth is now reborn in all her glory,
and displaying her bounty and numerous treasures.
And with the Earth, may we grow and prosper as well.
Now as they both light the fires, they say this:
"In the presence of the Olde Ones,
"We kindle this blaze in your honor
We invoke Thee, Mother of Life;
Stand as the flame before us,
Fly as the star and moon above us,
Lay as a path beneath us.
We tread with care upon it.
Wrap your faery wings around us and lull us with your magick
Sing the song of your heart
so that we may know your light and laughter
And that it may kindle love and courage
within our burgeoning souls afresh,
As you also kindle your new love, your new life,
We honor Thee, Lady.
The High Priestess then draws the invoking pentagram before the High Priest and in turn, extends the Wand to him. He takes it and leads the coven in the first circle around the cauldron or bonfire. The High Priestess then takes over and leads them around it several more times, drawing down power. If any magick is to be done, it is done now. Otherwise the High Priestess and the High Priest both thank the Gods and close the circle. Cakes and wine shall follow.
