Grounding Exercises
Try this for grounding yourself and relaxing a little. First, strip off your shoes and socks and head out the door, providing that the weather permits. Once outside, find a spot where you can relax and stand on the bare ground or the grass. Feel the coolness beneath your feet and then (visualize) feel your body as it allows it's energy to slowly settle into the earth. Bit by bit. Breathe right down into the earth so that it begins to feel like a projection of your body.
When you're having trouble visualizing or if you can't do the above in bare feet then, try this instead. Strip off your shoes and walk across a room in super-slow motion...... Extremely slow motion..... . Focus on what you are feeling. Feel your muscles, bones, and tendons in your feet and legs, shifting, rolling, moving you ever so slowly as you continue walking. Now move and shift your balance. Walking in slow motion, it should take approximately 3-5 minutes to walk across a 20 foot room. So about half way across the room, direct your focus on the downward energy flow radiating from your feet into the Earth, and on the earth's upward energy flow that is now supporting your weight. You will be grounded by the time you reach the other side of the room.
Can't do the above, well, here's a few more suggestions.
1.)Try singing. Sing the deepest note that you are able. Feel it vibrate way down deep inside your belly and through your pelvis. Imagine this sound now going into the earth, extending itself down, deep into the earth...and see if you can sing a little deeper. As you get deeper, feel your energy ride along with each breath of each note you sing and continue on down into mother earth until you feel grounded.
2.) Try working with gems such as amethysts, obsidian, black tourmaline, or tiger eye. Any one that you wish is fine. Polish them, dust them, or just hold them. Wash them off, dry them, or if you like you can even get into working with them and tumble them. And as you do this, imagine that you are preparing them to go back into the earth. If you can lose yourself in concentration while doing this, it won't be long before you feel calm and grounded.
Once you learn and practice a little bit, you should be able to do this in 2-3 deep breaths without all the rest thrown in. All you have to do is turn your focus on that downward flow of energy as you breathe out, and then as you breathe in feel the earth's energy rise up to greet you.
EMBRACING STRESS AS A FRIEND!
by Melvin D. Saunders
Psychoneuroimmunology addresses the issue of the mind's ability to heal the body. When you consciously or subconsciously replay negative thought patterns in your mind, it can easily lock your mind into a negative state like a loop tape, which in turn can encourage bodily cells to respond negatively as well. A simple exercise in concentration can do wonders in breaking a negative condition, and it can also give you immediate relief!
Choose an object, a geometric design, a picture or a candle flame, and while in a relaxed position, direct your TOTAL conscious awareness toward observing it. Empty your mind of all thoughts and distractions as if nothing else existed except that object or picture. Purposefully blank your mind of internal comments, evaluations or stray pictures. Do this for 60 seconds without interruption. If an interruptive thought occurs, or your conscious awareness fleets even for a moment to an extraneous sound or other sensory stimuli, start over again, but do this for one full minute. To illustrate, look at the black dot in the middle of the circle for 1 full minute without distraction.
As simple as this exercise sounds, you'll be surprised how casual thoughts or interruptions will try to creep into your mind. Concentration in this way does not mean grimacing with a frown on your face. It simply involves a relaxed focalization on one subject only. Once you accomplish this externally, do the same exercise internally with your eyes closed. Look at the subject matter first, then close your eyes and see it in your mind's eye.
This technique rotates the mind's resonance from negative to neutral to positive, where a feeling of relief is felt. Afterwards, care must be taken not to have the same negative thought sequences shift you back again. Even getting close to doing this exercise correctly will bring about good results, so practice it a lot.
