May the Force be With You

“But Moses said to God, ‘Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?’ So [God] said, ‘I will certainly be with you.’” (Exodus 3:11-12)

Have you ever had a God inspired dream of doing something really great for God’s kingdom? A dream of being so rich and powerful that you can finance the preaching of the gospel worldwide? A dream of leading millions or even billions of lost souls to the LORD, of building orphanages, Bible schools, hospitals, infrastructure and feeding the poor? You may have, but perhaps you backed off because you thought, “I have been defeated for so long I have a poor self-image.” If so, I do have good news for you. If you’ll believe God, even a poor self-image won’t keep you from success. Look at Exodus and see what God did with Moses.

Moses didn’t have a very good self-image. He’d made the mistake of killing and burying an Egyptian in the sand which drove him to the Midian desert for 40 years herding Jethro’s sheep. He’d once dreamed of being a deliverer of God’s people, but as far as he was concerned, he was finished, kaput like Leo Kirch, a failure, not even a flip, but a flop! But God thought otherwise and God always has the last Word on the matter. In fact, when God came to Moses in the burning bush, He didn’t ask for Moses’ resume or did a background check. He just told him to go see Pharaoh and tell him to let His people go.

Moses, however, was still wrestling with his poor self- image. “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?” he stuttered. God simply said, “I will certainly be with you.” It didn’t matter who Moses was. What mattered was that God Almighty, El Shaddai, the Force of the universe, was with him. The same thing is true for you because you don’t need successes to answer God’s call. You don’t need any business, academic, artistic, athletic, political or spiritual credentials. You don’t need George Lucas or Luke Skywalker or all those Star Wars sequels and prequels. All you need is the presence of God in your life and ask that the Force be with you. Think about that the next time the devil tells you you’re a nobody, that you’ll never be able to do what God has put in your heart to do. Put that loser devil in his place, tell him it doesn’t matter who you are, you can go solo like Han Solo because the Force is with you.
