Where’s The Beef?“For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But strong meat [solid food] belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” (Hebrews 5:13-14) You are spiritually mature when, through much daily practice, you have trained your senses to discern between good and evil, especially that Resident Evil called the Flesh. YES, the Flesh is what make you fall for a vixen like Milla Jovovich. You are mature when you’ve practiced walking in the Holy Spirit and renewing your mind with the Word of God until even your flesh goes God’s way instead of the highway. Are there some things your flesh used to make you to do before you made Jesus the Lord of your life that you don’t want to do anymore? I for one used to chase women like Alfie, and I felt sorry for those who couldn’t. But now that I’m a Blood-bought, born again believer, I have no desire for that kind of empty life anymore. It is not even part of my thoughts, much less my lifestyle. I have put them all into the Bonfire of the Vanities. I have matured from a skirt chaser to a God chaser, and as a result, the blessings of God, the mercy and the goodness surely are chasing me all the days of my life. (Psalm 23:6) That’s what happens as you feed and renew your mind on the Word of God, but it won’t happen quickly or easily. It will be like Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. Your flesh will fight back for a long time because it’s been programmed to eat American Pie, to go the way of the world for so long. But if you stick with the Word and keep growing, you will be Changing Lanes without Ben Affleck and your flesh will develop the habit of righteousness and holiness just like it developed the habit of unrighteousness and selfishness. Don’t starve your spirit by trying to get by on just a little spiritual milk now and then. It is not enough that you just Got Milk. You need to beef up your knowledge of the Word of God and get into the meat of the matter. But you won’t find the Beef at Wendy’s, for the meat of the Word only comes through much study and meditation of God’s Holy Bible.
