The English Patience

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.” (James 1:2-3)

It is difficult to be enthusiastic about going through the tests and trials of life, when your baby is sick and you’ve just lost your job with bills mounting, collectors calling and the IRS wanting to audit you all the way back to the Vietnam War. But you can get excited about being totally provided for in every way, that you are in want of nothing. According to the Word of God, if you’ll use your trials to develop patience, that’s exactly what you’ll get. You must realize that patience in the Bible doesn’t mean what you thought it meant in the English language. It does not mean settling for second best nor does it mean standing idly by while the devil steps all over you like a Persian rug.

No, patience is a powerful word. The meaning as translated from the original Greek is “to be consistently constant or to be the same way all the time, regardless of what happens.” To understand how much power that is, you need to know that it’s one of the most outstanding attributes of God Himself. The Bible says God changes not, He is the same yesterday, today and forever. The person who absolutely cannot be changed by anyone or anything is extremely powerful. Obviously, God has that much power, but so do YOU. By the power of the Holy Spirit (Ruach Ha’Kodesh) working within you, you can be the same every day no matter what happens.

If you’ll put your trust in the Word of God and let The English Patience go to work, it won’t matter what happens. You don’t need Ralph Fienes, Kristin Scott Thomas or Miramax when you already have the Word. The facts of life will have to subordinate to the powerful truth of the Word of God, and only patience will allow that to happen. The doctor’s report, credit report, bank report or any negative report will stand no chance against God’s good report about you in His Word. You won’t ever have to accept anything less than victory again, for you are much more than a conqueror of your circumstances. You are healed, delivered, restored, made whole, prosperous, favored and blessed.
