Will & Grace

“Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility; for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (1 Peter 5:5)

Most believers don’t know much about true humility these days. If you tell them they’re the righteousness of God, they won’t believe it. They may say, “I’m not righteous, I’m just an old sinner saved by grace.” They’re making a sincere attempt to be humble. But they’re sincerely wrong, they’re so afraid of being exalted by pride that they’ve let the devil trick them into falling right into it.

According to the epistle of Peter, to be truly humble is to submit to God and His Word. That means when God says something, you believe it no matter how foreign to your carnal thinking and how far removed from your current situation it may be. You may be sick, but the Word says by His stripes you are healed in Isaiah 53:5. You may be broke, but the Word says God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Philippians 4:19. When God says you’ve been made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, you say that too. In fact, you wouldn’t dare say anything else because to do so would be to disagree with God, which is the ultimate form of pride.

Don’t let satan or a TV show keep you biting the dust of false humility. Agree with God. Find out what His Word says about you, then be bold enough to say it yourself. Resist pride by submitting to one another and to the truth in His Word. Clothe yourself in true humility by agreeing with His Word for that is God’s will, which will lead to grace for the humble.
