Salvation Army

“Are they [angels] not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14)

Most of us heard about guardian angels when we were kids or have watched angels portrayed on TV or in the movies from well known names such as Della Reese to John Travolta to Patrick Ewing. Some of us, like me, even live in Los Angeles, the city of angels. But angels are not just kid stuff. They’re powerful spirits sent forth by God to minister to us who are the heirs of salvation. The word salvation in Hebrews 1:14 is translated from the Greek word soteria meaning deliverance, safety, preservation, protection, and restoration. It is essentially the Greek version of the Hebrew shalom, meaning whole with nothing missing, nothing broken.

God has created a Salvation Army of gloriously powerful spiritual beings known as angels for the express purpose of protecting us and delivering us from the evils of this world. For many of us the angels are just like the Maytag repairmen sitting around in heaven with nothing to do. According to Psalm 103:20, the spoken Word of God is what puts those angels in action. So when you’re in trouble, don’t sit on your pity pot and cry about how awful things are. Speak the Word in season and out of season, command your angels and give them something to do. Command them to bind the evil spirits in your mean boss, ex-spouse, neighbor or that rude motorist who gave you the finger. Command them to looswho gave you the finger. Command them to loose the blessings of heaven, open doors of favor and reap the harvest for you as you sow faithfully to support God’s work. Then be patient and let them have time to work for they most assuredly will get the job done.
