To Catch a Thief

“If the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.” (Luke 12:39)

What are the times when we are most vulnerable to being caught off guard by the enemy of our souls? One of those times is just after you’ve had a great victory like a promotion on the job, closing that transaction, paying off your debts or getting married. When Jesus was baptized in water and by the Holy Spirit and about to begin His ministry, He was taken to the desert to be tempted by satan after not eating for 40 days.

Leisure is another avenue in which satan seeks to steal from us. In the normal routine of life, our senses are tuned to the need to draw upon God’s Holy Spirit to see us through. When we go on vacation, however, we conveniently drop these routines. We wrongfully think that we do not need to spend time with God or even bring our Bible. This is a grave mistake as the vacation becomes a test of our character. During vacations we turn freely to what we love the most. It reveals to us what is at the core of our existence and who is on the throne of our lives, is it SELF or is it God? It is the same in our spiritual lives, for it only takes a small crack in our heart to lose our spiritual focus.

You don’t have to be a thief or Cary Grant To Catch a Thief. Be on guard whenever times of victory or leisure are made available to you. Use these times for spiritual refreshment with the living water of the Word, not just physical refreshment like Spirit, Spider Man, Scooby Doo, Scorpion and Clones, and you will keep that dreaded thief satan from entering your house to corrupt your thoughts. Rejoice always and be full of joy as you spend time in the Word, in God’s presence. If the devil can’t steal your joy, he won’t be able to keep your goods.
