About a BoyIs it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child? And she answered It is well (2 Kings 4:26) The prophet Elisha would often travel through the town of Shunem and there was a notable couple who offered him a meal. Then, seeing that he needed a place to stay and study, they built an Upper Room for him above their house. Elisha was so thankful of their kindness that he asked the wife what he could do for her. His servant Gehazi later informed Elisha that the woman was barren and her husband was old. Elisha then prophesied that she will have a son in a year. The son arrived as promised. Later on the son became ill and died. The woman ran to meet Elisha. When Elisha asked what was wrong, she did not panic in fear. Her response to Elisha was totally unnatural. It is well she said. The English word well here is translated from the Hebrew shalom meaning whole or complete, with nothing missing, nothing broken. Elisha then went to the boy and raised him from the dead in the first episode of Alien Resurrection. About A Boy is not just a romantic comedy about Hugh Grant and his boy. It is looking at human situations through God’s eyes, not the carnal eyes of our limited understanding. The Shunammite woman did not panic, for she knew her boy is well, or whole, nothing missing, nothing broken. Faith does not panic, but realizes that what looks like devastating circumstances is actually God’s plan to bring glory to Himself by demonstrating His power. When Jesus walked on water to the disciples in the middle of the night, they cried, It’s a ghost! (Matthew 14:26) Appearances can bring great FEAR, which stands for False Evidence Appearing Real, even to the point of paralyzing us. Relax for it is well, everything is all right and find God in your circumstance today. Keep the faith and trust God for His wonderful outcome of shalom in your situation.
