The Sum of All Fears

“For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

Unlike what you may have been taught, fear isn’t just a reaction to circumstances. It’s a spiritual force which begins inside you and it is totally destructive. Fear is Satan’s Lethal Weapon and he moves in response to fear in the same way God is moved by faith. He challenges the promises of the Word of God with it and because of our ignorance of the Word, he wins most of the time. In Matthew 14, Jesus invited Peter to come to Him on the water. Peter walked on water because of his faith in the Word of Jesus, but began to sink because he saw the wind and was afraid. It wasn’t the wind that defeated him, it was his fear of it. Peter looked at the circumstances, gave into the fear, and failed. If Peter had kept his focus on Jesus, his faith would never have wavered. All the blustering and blowing of The Perfect Storm couldn’t have drawn him off course.

Faith is developed by meditating daily on God’s Word. Fear is developed by meditating on Satan’s lies, even the True Lies of Arnold. Fearful meditation is called worrying. Fear is the darkroom where satan develops all your negatives, and you won’t get a pretty picture. Fear stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. The Word of God is the sword of the Spirit. Use it to fight Satan every time he comes against you. Hold up The Shield of faith and quench all of his fiery darts, loose nukes and missiles. Speak words of faith and fear will just disappear. You don’t need the CIA, Tom Clancy, Ben Affleck or Morgan Freeman to conquer fear, for since God has not given us the spirit of fear, The Sum of All Fears is absolute zero.
