Spy Game

“But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes, and they spoke to all the congrgation of the children of Israel, saying ‘The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land.’” (Numbers 14:6-7)

God brought the Israelites out of Egypt and promised He would lead them into a land of milk and honey. The exodus from Egypt was difficult for they could no longer do things the old ways. God provided daily manna for them and led them by cloud and fire. But there came a point in which they forgot what God had said, and their discomfort changed their belief about God. Only two good spies out of 12 that were sent, Joshua and Caleb, believed what God said and were willing to stand. However, the crowd believed the negative report of the other ten spies and wanted to stone them.

Joshua and Caleb had spied the land, believed God, and challenged the crowd. They seemed to know that if God was not pleased with them they would not enter into the Promised Land. Those who complained did not enter the Promised Land. Only Joshua and Caleb and a new generation saw the fulfillment of God’s promise. If God had called you to stand for a cause bigger than yourself, then you will have opposition to His call, which may even come from those in your own camp. But if God has called you, then you can be sure He will make a way, and He has already opened the way before you. To win this Spy Game you don’t need Brad Pitt or Robert Redford. All you need is to take God at His Word, walk in faith, joined with God to take the land, the Promised Land full of blessings, favor, increase, prosperity, and of course, milk and honey.
