The Way We Were“Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4) As a born again believers, we have inside us the same newness of life God gave Jesus when He raised Him from the dead. The old sinner you and I were has died and The Way We Were is gone for we’ve become a new creation, full of the resurrection life and glory of God. But sin, disobedience to the Word and living a selfish, ME first, carnal life will keep that abundant God kind of life from manifesting. Sin will separate you from the power and blessings of God, even though you’re baptized and born again. Zoe life, the abundant resurrection life, will not show up if you knowingly disobey the Word of God and continue to wink wink and give in to sin. Robert Redford and Barbara Streisand can’t help you to overcome sin even if they wanted to, nor can you overcome it by trying. You can only overcome sin by walking in the newness of life God has put in you, by prayer and spending time meditating in the Word of God to let it renew your mind, to perfect the salvation of your carnal soul. As you do that, the Holy Spirit will strengthen you, comfort you and enable you to conquer sin. The Holy Spirit, however, will not subdue those fleshly habits all by Himself. He is An Officer and A Gentleman and He’ll wait for you to ask for help, then He will assist, strengthen and teach you how to walk in the new spiritual and abundant life that is in you by the glory of the Father. If you still have problems with sin, ask God for help and confess out loud, “Father, give me the power to live in this newness of life. I declare myself dead to all forms of sin. I will spend time in prayer and in the Word of God day after day. I believe I’ll receive the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
