Raider of the First Ark

“Then the anger of the LORD was aroused against Uzzah, and He struck him because he put his hand to the ark; and he died there before God.” (1 Chronicles 13:10)

God has given us His Word that has specific laws and principles that must be followed if we are to expect His blessing. King David failed to obey one of those laws in Numbers 4:15 to not touch holy things like the ark lest people die. When they were transporting the ark, Uzzah innocently reached to steady the ark but was stricken dead when he touched the ark of God. David thought it was right to carry the ark the way Uzzah did, and long before Indiana Jones and the Nazis, Uzzah the Raider of the First Ark lost his life for touching what is holy to God.

Many believers today take God’s Word lightly like Uzzah. They believe they can violate His Word without consequence, not knowing that a holy and faithful God stands by to uphold His Word. It can be life, or it can bring death. When God provides instructions, we need to follow them. Knowing this about God brings a healthy fear of Him. In verse 12 we see David was afraid of God that day saying, ‘How can I bring the ark of God to me?’ We must all have a healthy fear of God’s Word like King David for truly, it has the power of life or death, blessing or curse. We need to take God’s Word seriously, feed upon His Word daily as Soul Food, confess it out loud so that we might know Him and His precepts. Voraciously feed upon this knowledge that leads to life, OBEY it and receive God’s bountiful blessings.
