City of Joy

“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4)

I learned years ago to live by the Word of God where His Word was the final authority in my life and I’d confess it no matter what. I’d also learned to walk in love because the Bible says faith is worked by love. These two decisions to operate by faith in the Word of God and to walk in love are the two most important decisions any of us can make in our spiritual life. But we have no right to walk by faith and love and leave joy alone. Joy is an essential part of a life of victory for joy is what gives us the strength to rock steady when circumstances and The Perfect Storm of life get rough.

Joy gives you the ability to laugh in the devil’s face whenever he attacks your faith. Joy gives you the kind of staying power that will make you a winner time and again like the Lakers. So make a commitment to God that you’re going to walk, not only in faith and in love, but in joy as well, joy unspeakable and full of glory (1 Peter 1:8). Wherever you live, that will be the City of Joy. You don’t have to endure the Indian monsoon or face the poor on the streets of Calcutta like Patrick Swayze to discover joy. Rejoice always for the joy of the LORD is your strength (Nehemiah 8:10), and there won’t be anything the devil can do or say to steal your victory and keep your goods from you.
