The Shield

“For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” (Psalms 84:11)

What does it mean to be someone who walk uprightly? Being upright before God does not mean we are perfect, for unless we are Kevin Costner in A Perfect World, no one is perfect. It means that we so fully trust in God and His Word that we are willing to make things right when we humanly fail. We are willing to humble ourselves continually before the throne of God and confess our sins so He can forgive us. God has a plan for those of us who fully trust in Him and who obey His Word. He promises to be The Shield, to bestow honor, grace and glory, not to rough us up like on that cable cop show.

Furthermore, God will not withhold any good thing from us for He will shine His glory, the heavy weight of His goodness, on us like the sun. What a wonderful promise from our heavenly Father, what a motivation not to join the U.S. army but to Be All That We Can Be for God. Imagine That, living a life without Hank Azaria that God views as upright which allows Him to withhold no good thing from us. It means that all good things on earth are created by God for our enjoyment for we are His children. Forget about the U.S. Air Force, we can always Aim High by looking toward God and set The Object of Our Affection on the things above.
