The Messenger

“And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.” (2 Corinthians 12:7)

The devil has used Paul’s thorn in the flesh to talk believers out of the blessings of God for years, to try to convince us to settle for everything from sickness to poverty, from fear to oppression, and to do it out of our own free will. Tradition says that God gave Paul the thorn in the flesh and even makes the thorn into some strange mystery that even Scooby Doo cannot solve. But the Bible says that the thorn in the flesh was The Messenger of Satan. Paul preached the gospel and every time he did that, he destroyed more of Satan’s kingdom. So Satan sent The Messenger, an evil version of Joan of Arc played by Milla Jovovich, to stop him lest he be too exalted.

When Paul sought God’s help concerning his thorn three times, God simply said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in your weakness.” When Paul didn’t have enough human strength to overcome, God’s power was sufficient to enable him to be an overcomer in spite of his weakness. Do not allow the devil to talk you out of your victory. Throw tradition away and dare to believe in the uncompromised Word of God. Fight the good fight of faith like a good soldier, and just like the Apostle Paul, you will see the salvation of God at work in your life and realize that when you are weak, then you are strong (verse 10).
