Go For Broke

“It shall be made in a pan with oil. When it is mixed, you shall bring it in. The baked [and broken] pieces of the grain offering you shall offer for a sweet aroma to the LORD.” (Leviticus 6:21)

Brokenness is what God requires to bless us at a higher spiritual level. God required of Joseph when he was left for dead in the pit and then 13 more years of slavery and imprisonment before he was promoted to be The Prince of Egypt. He required of the Apostle Paul when He struck him blind on the Damascus Road and then sent him to Arabia for two years. He required of Moses with 40 years of herding sheep in the Midian desert, of King David in years of running and hiding from Saul, and every other leader in the Bible.

Brokenness, however, cannot be achieved on our own for it is something God does for us. Nobody wants to have a broken relationship, a broken body or a broke bank account. We cannot determine that we are going to be broken, but we can refuse to become broken. When God begins this deeper work in our lives, we can yell and scream and refuse the pain. We can manipulate and strive to stay on top, but this only delays God’s work and the attendant blessings and promotion that come along. Pride, lust, power and money are ruling strongholds of the world today. Brokenness is considered weak but God says until we are broken we cannot be an aroma pleasing to Him. God wants us to be a sweet aroma, a Sweet Smell of Success. For this to happen, we must be a broken vessel in God’s hand. We must be like Van Johnson and simply Go For Broke.
