The Net“Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” But Simon answered and said to Him, ‘Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net’” (Luke 5:4-5) Jesus had been teaching the crowds from Peter’s fishing boat when He said to Peter to launch out and let down his nets for a catch. Peter answered, “We have toiled all the night and caught nothing” and he started to grumble and complain. Peter, however, must have heard something in Jesus’ command to launch out, because at the end of his complaining, he said, “Nevertheless, at Your word, I will let down the net.” Note that Peter let down just one net, probably a spare or worn out one, and not all the nets as Jesus had commanded. Even with his partial obedience, Peter caught a net-breaking, boat-sinking load of fish. The amount of fish was limited only by the number of nets Peter could have used, for God is a God of more than enough. Peter’s blessing was only limited by his obedience to the Word of God. Jesus likewise commanded us to be fishers of men and He has given us a powerful new medium of the Internet or The Net. The fish net that Peter used to catch fish has been transformed into The Net that will be used to preach the gospel of salvation to Sandra Bullock and billions of lost and dying souls. Nothing would have happened if Peter had not agreed with the Word of God. There may be something you’re going through right now- physical, financial, marital, or emotional – and you’re at the end of your rope, not knowing how to tie knot and hang on. Whatever it is that you need, tell God, “Nevertheless, at Your word I will.” Get out of agreement with the problem, out of agreement with the negative, and get N’ Sync, in agreement with the Word of God and be like Nike and Just Do It, Scooby Doo It. When you get into agreement with God’s way and His Word, the Facts of Life will have no choice but to conform to the Word and in the Final Analysis, with or without Richard Gere, it is only the Word of God that matters.
