Strange Days

“Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may be also be glad with exceeding joy.” (1 Peter 4:12-13)

Strange Days is more than just a Ralph Fienes movie about virtual reality, it is about living through the trials of life. No one, not even Clint Eastwood, wants to be In The Line of Fire willingly, and yet none of us are strangers to fiery trials. Even Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane wanted to pass the Cup of suffering and didn’t want to go to the cross. Many believers think that if we’ve got faith, we’ll never go through trials or tribulations. But nothing can be further from the truth as Joseph went through trials, as did Moses, Daniel, David, Job, John, Paul, and many others in the Bible.

Fire can refine and remove the impurities of our hearts, changing us to the image and likeness of God. Even in the midst of our sufferings, our resolve should be, “Father, even in the midst of the fire, I’m going to serve, love, and worship You and I want to glorify You in all my trials and tribulations.” Just as God was with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the fiery furnace, He is in the fiery trial with us. Don’t buy into one of the devil’s True Lies that say, “God sent this trial to teach me something.” God doesn’t need to send the fiery trial, but He can make it turn out for our good if we are N’Sync with His Word. If we are in a fire, we need to drop and roll because the oxygen is near the ground so we can breathe. The best position to make it through a fiery trial is humbly on our face before God, worshiping, praising, thanking, magnifying Him and bless His Name. This is where we can find the strength we need, the exceeding joy and the glory and then some, for Strange Days are indeed ahead.
