Crossing JordanMoses My servant is dead. Now, therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your feet will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses (Joshua 1:2-3) For 40 years, Joshua was known as the servant of Moses and his right hand man. Gods preparation for Joshua required years of selfless dedication, basic training in the desert, and tests of faith and obedience. Those quiet years were designed to move Joshua into new stages of development and his ultimate calling to cross the Jordan. Long before NBC greenlighted the show Crossing Jordan about a crime fighting medical examiner, God has predestined the children of Israel for the first ever episode to enter the Promised Land. Similarly, God allows each of us quiet times to lay a foundation that He plans to build on. Those times, when All Is Quiet On The Western Front, may appear to be painful, unfair, passive, and meaningless, but they are the ingredients that God is using to compose the message He plans to speak through us. Without these experiences, the Jordan River can never be crossed and we cannot enter the Promised Land, the land full of blessings flowing with milk and honey. We also need to learn to embrace the times of seeming inactivity from God for they, too, will take us to the next level of our walk with God, where our conquering, possessing feet is not the furthest thing from our minds.
