The Insider

“When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God....then you shall set out from your place and go after it.... Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before” (Joshua 3:3,4).

Thousands of years ago, the Ark of the Covenant represented the presence of God, His anointing, and the power of the Holy Spirit. The Ark is none other than God Almighty Himself. The children of Israel had to carry the Ark and follow it at a distance of 2000 cubits even after they entered the Promised Land to remind them of God. The Ark was an outward sign that God was with them, that they were under the Covenant of God. The Covenant had more Terms of Endearment than Shirley MacLaine and Jack Nicholson put together. The Covenant is what made them more Invincible than Michael Jackson. So as they were preparing to enter the Promised Land, Joshua and the leaders were saying, “You haven’t passed this way before and you don’t know what to do, so keep your eyes on God or the Ark to remind Him of His part of the Covenant.”

We all encounter things we’ve never encountered before and for some of us, it’s Close Encounter of the God kind. There are times when we don’t know what to do, but they’re good for us because it’s not in the easy times that we grow up – it’s in the hard times. In the tough times we need to say, “I’ll follow the Ark. I’ll keep my eyes on Jesus and be led by peace for He is the Prince of Peace.” We are now the Ark of the Covenant so we can stop looking for it like Indiana Jones. We are the Ark, and God lives in us. God, not Russell Crowe, is The Insider. With the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, God doesn’t lead us anymore from the outside like He did with the Ark of the Covenant. He now leads us from the inside, and we don’t have to struggle to know what to do when God’s presence resides in us. His presence and anointing will lead us with more Guiding Light than any soap opera as we look to Him and His Word.
