Affliction

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” (2 Corinthians 4:17)

Not long ago, this ministry was facing serious financial pressures but I stood in faith, spoke the Word and battled them in the Spirit and in prayer. What I didn’t realize was when the problems appeared so great, the blessings were even greater. Eddy Ministries was growing by the thousands, blessing more ministries, spiritaining more people, writing more emails, obtaining more favor, printing its first book, receiving more wisdom, and converging more secular material into the spiritual than ever before! It was breakthrough time and a time for rejoicing but I didn’t know because the devil was keeping me busy thinking about the problems. I was so unhinged like that sheriff portrayed by Nick Nolte that all I could see was the Affliction when I should have been shouting the victory from the rooftop for the harvest is now.

But praise God, He woke me up to the blessings and the exceeding and eternal weight of glory and reminded me that the problems are only temporary, or subject to change, but God and His Word of victory will never ever change. With Wall Street turning into a 99 cents store and folks getting Enroned and WorldConned, it’s so easy to get our eyes fixated on the problems of life that we overlook the blessings of God completely and miss them by a mile. As a result, we end up suffering through situations that should have us rejoicing. If you’ve been suffering through hard times lately, wake up and smell the blessings around you. You’ll be much more effective in handling the problems if you’re giving God the glory for solutions He’s already provided. Forget about Charleton Heston or Michelangelo in Hollywood’ version of The Agony and The Ecstasy. God’s version is take your eyes off the agony, keep your eyes on Him and obey His Word and soon you’ll be tasting the ecstasy of glory, prosperity and victory.
