The Natural

“Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man [Lazarus] was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said ‘Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.’”
(John 11:41)

In John 11, when Jesus went to Resurrection Blvd to raise Lazarus from the dead, He found no faith in Lazarus’ sisters, Mary and Martha. Martha ran out to meet Jesus and told Him, “If You had been here sooner, my brother would not have died.” Jesus tried to tell her, “I will raise your brother from the dead,” but Martha said, “I know he will rise at the resurrection at the last day.” Jesus said, “I AM the resurrection and the life.” Jesus found Himself to be the only one with any faith standing outside Lazarus’ grave. Luckily for Lazarus, Jesus knew what to do for He lifted up His eyes and gave thanks.

That doesn’t mean Jesus was looking at Martha and then suddenly looked up. It simply means He shifted His attention from baseball, Robert Redford and The Natural over to the spiritual realm. Jesus took His eyes off the unbelief and The Natural, He took his nose off the stench for Lazarus had been dead for four days, and put His eyes on God, and at that moment He put His full faith and trust in God, Lazarus got a raise, a raise from the dead. To lift up your eyes doesn’t mean you see things with your natural eyes. It means you pitch a no hitter against the devil, shut out The Natural and focus on the supernatural God and understand that things will be looking up when you realize that your help is in Him. Your power is in Him for God is infinitely bigger than any problem you can ever face.
