The Fountainhead

“In that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.” (Zechariah 13:1)

According to John 19:34, when Jesus died on the cross, only two substances came out of His pierced side, blood and water. Blood is for redemption and dealing with sins, for without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins (Hebrews 9:22). Water is for imparting life, dealing with death. Jesus’ death takes away our sins while at the same time imparting the rich life of God into us. Before we can accept the living water of life, we must first be cleansed by the Blood and long before Clint Eastwood, Jesus was already finished with Blood Work.

The Blood which flowed out for our redemption was typified by the blood of the Passover lamb in Exodus. From Zechariah 13:1 we see that this redeeming Blood formed a fountain for the washing of sins. Praise God for making The Fountainhead with more cleaning power than Gary Cooper can imagine. This fountain is not for drinking but for washing. The Blood was also for the purchasing of the Church (Acts 20:28) for it was none other than the precious Blood of Jesus. The Blood which formed a fountain for the washing of our sins was the price of the purchase of the Church and since it was the Blood of Jesus, God was willing to give us His abundant eternal life long before Bob Barker can say The Price is Right.
