The Sweetest Thing

“How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
(Psalm 119:103)

The Word of God is The Sweetest Thing, sweeter than honey and definitely much sweeter than Cameron Diaz or Christina Applegate. The Word is to your spirit what food is to your body (Matthew 4:4). The Word of God is to your body what spinach is to Popeye. It may not be fried catfish or collard greens, but it definitely is Soul Food. When your body feeds on food, it produces physical strength. When your spirit feeds on the spiritual food of the Word, it produces a spiritual force called faith that will give you more power than Clark Kent can handle. And just as you can’t Supersize your fries one time and then live on its aftertaste hoping to get fat enough to sue McDonald’s, you just can’t remember what the Word says and stay strong in faith. You have to read it again and again and continually feed on what it says. Get out your Bible, dust it and read it. Hear it preached at church or on the radio, watch sermons on TV, listen to teaching tapes, read books on the Word, visit ministries online or get spiritained by these emails.

You may come across a familiar verse in the Bible, and suddenly God will give you the greatest revelation you’ve ever had for the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). If you are diligent, you will get a fresh squeezed and juicy revelation from that familiar verse or a spiritual connection that converges with a movie, song, book or TV show from the popular secular culture. More often than not it will be what you needed for your current situation. You can feed on the Word of God that is presently in your spirit but you won’t get spectacular results if you don’t spend time in the Word and in prayer allowing the Holy Spirit to feed and empower you daily. You don’t need a phone booth to be spiritual Superman. All you need is to replenish the force of faith within you, feast on the sweet Word of God daily and make every meal a Happy Meal.
