Chariots of Fire“And Elisha prayed, and said ‘LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’ Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” (2 Kings 6:17) Long before the movie Chariots of Fire was made about the story of two British track athletes, a Jew and a Christian, in the 1924 Olympics, God had opened the eyes of the servant of Elisha to display his mighty army. Angels were sitting on horses and riding Chariots of Fire to demonstrate the immense firepower of heaven protecting the man of God Elisha from the Syrian army. Elisha had no fear because he could see that those angels who are with him are more powerful than the Syrians. Seeing what others cannot see is like the movie Field of Dreams about a man who had a vision to build a baseball diamond in a cornfield. He didn’t know why but he just had to do it. And because he built it, the players showed up, great players from the past like Shoeless Joe Jackson. When neighbors came over, they were unable to see what Kevin Costner could see. This didn't help him and it made him look crazy in their eyes. If God tells us to build or do something and no matter how ridiculous it may sound, we should do it for If We Build It, They Will Come. God gets all the glory for transforming the ridiculous to the miraculous. It is for us to simply obey with childlike faith and not to ask why. When we obey His Word, God will allow us to see what others cannot see. God will increase our spiritual senses to higher and higher levels, and those who are Eyes Wide Shut like Tom Cruise or Nicole Kidman will see this. God has a rich inheritance of glory for us and an invincible army of the angels at our command. Chariots of Fire are available to transport us to heaven or to scare the Living Daylights out of the devil or our natural enemies. Fear not, for seeing what others cannot see will require a level of obedience that go beyond human reason, and it certainly will involve risks and invite ridicule from others.
