The Sure ThingBeloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments [His Word], and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. (1 John 3:21-22) It pays to obey God and His Word. Some people think they can disobey God and since God is merciful, He won’t mind. What they don’t realize is that their own hearts will start to condemn them if they knowingly sin by lying, stealing, cheating, skipping church, shacking up, not tithing or forgiving that person who wronged them. Others may think they’re OK, but when they come to the throne of God in prayer, they’ll be filled with doubts and fears that keep their prayers from being answered. That’s why it’s so important to obey the Word. A life of obedience will give us spiritual boldness, boldness in prayer and boldness in faith so that we can come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16). It will give us bold confidence toward God that those who are mired in sin simply don’t have. John Cusack thought that a pretty girl he was going after was The Sure Thing, but in God’s eyes, nothing is sure until you obey Him. You don’t have to be perfect to obey God. All you have to do is listen and be responsive to the Holy Spirit. When He tells you to do something, put on your Nike and Just Do It. As you do, confidence will rise up within you. Instead of being consumed with doubts and feelings that the Word of God is not working, you’ll be filled with faith that it will be The Sure Thing. You’ll begin to trust God as you walk with Him and learn to rest in His goodness. Even though the price for all your sins has been paid, a life of disobedience will cost you a king’s ransom. It will cost you the boldness that is rightfully yours and it will deplete your faith and fill you with fear. Don’t let the condemnation of your heart compromise your confidence. Do the sure things that are pleasing to God and enjoy the blessings that are sure to follow. Copyright © 2002 Eddy Ministries. All rights reserved. Subscribe/Unsubscribe:
