The
Young and The Rested
There remains therefore a rest to the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according the same example of disobedience. (Hebrews 4:9-11) The Book of Hebrews
compares the rest of God with the children of Israel taking possession
of the Promised Land. That land was to be a land flowing with milk and
honey, where their every need would be met, a place of rest all around
from their enemies, and all they had to do was go in and possess it.
But unbelief and disobedience to God's Word, like spending too much
time meditating on the soap operas of life, keep them as The Young and
the Restless. We believers have been given the same opportunity to We can only come
to that place of trust and obedience by getting to KNOW God, by spending
time with Him in prayer and meditation on the Word. That is the skilled
labor, assisted by the divine wisdom of the Holy Spirit, that will bring
us into the rest of God. We must diligently labor to know God instead
of just knowing about God. When we do that, God will begin to reveal
Himself to us and give us sneak previews of His kindness, His nature,
His heart, His power, His wrath and His love. As God reveals how much
He wants to do for us, it'll transform all of our strivings into peace,
misgivings into trust, fear into faith, and enable us to enter into
His divine and peaceful rest, with nothing missing, nothing broken.
