The Crying Game

“When the children of Israel cried out to the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer for the children of Israel who delivered them: Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.” (Judges 3:9)

When the children of Israel entered the Promised Land, they were victorious through the courageous efforts of Joshua and Caleb who issued the world's first Minority Report without any help from Tom Cruise. As the first generation grew older, a second generation began to emerge and Israel again fell into idolatry by worshiping the idols of Baal and Asherah. God was very angry so He allowed them to be enslaved by their
enemies. They cried out for deliverance and God heard them. Whenever God's people cry out, He hears them, and when they are sincerely repentant, He responds with His love and mercy. God responds by promoting those whom He has prepared. God had been preparing Othniel the nephew of Caleb for such a time as this to judge the nation of Israel for he had the same Spirit as his uncle, Caleb.

The Spirit of God came upon Othniel, and he became Israel's judge and went to war. God gave Cushan-Rishathaim the king of Mesopotamia into the hands of Othniel, who overpowered him and ruled with peace for forty years. In the world we live in today, billions upon billions are enslaved to the gods of money, pleasure, power and the god of SELF. If we are enslaved by the enemies of lack, sickness, poverty, oppression, fear or debt, then we need to master The Crying Game so that God will hear us and deliver us. We can do this without the Irish Republican Army, Stephen Rea or Forest Whitaker if we are truly repentant and dig deeply into His Word. When God hears our cry, He may prepare us for The Rising without Bruce Springsteen when we'll be called upon to deliver God's people, or He may elevate someone else like Othniel, Joshua or Caleb to deliver us.
