“Then [God] brought [Abram] outside and said, 'Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.' And He said to him, 'So shall your descendants be.' And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.” (Genesis 15:5-6)

When God first told Abram that he was going to father a nation, he was an old and his wife Sarai was not just old but also barren. How could an old childless couple have children, much less a whole nation? Even with John Lennon's help, Abram couldn't even Imagine such a thing. God knew the mental challenge Abram would have, so He didn't just make him a promise and nothing else. God gave Abram a big picture of that promise to meditate on. Long before Ed McMahon could spell Star Search, God took Abram into
the starry night, asked him to look upward and said, "So shall your descendants be." Counting the stars, that's what meditation is all about. Envision the promise of God until it becomes real on the inside like the dollars George Lucas is raking in for Star Wars. Meditation is powerful, and by focusing on the promises God has given us in His Word, we can be blessed like Abram.

Even though God is faithful, many believers have trouble believing the Word of God. They have trouble not just agreeing with it mentally, but believing that what it says will really work for them. There are times when we felt so defeated and the circumstances so bleak that it was tough for us to believe that we are super conquerors even though God says we are. When our mind staggers with disbelief and doubt at the promises of God, our only recourse is to meditate on those promises. Want to have A Beautiful Mind that Russell Crowe would give up his Oscar for? Try meditation, meditation on the Word of God. Bible meditation means thinking about and reflecting on the Word of God, pondering a particular verse of scripture and mentally applying it to our circumstances time and again until that scripture becomes a part of our subconscious mind. Meditate day and night, meditate the Word long enough and God will turn our scars into stars !!
