The
Ten Commandments
The Ten Commandments
is much more than a 1957 Cecil B. DeMille movie starring Charlton Heston
that we see repeatedly on ABC. They may seem harsh at first, but they
are all based on love and there's a good reason behind each and every
one. All those "thou shalt nots" can be intimidating, but
behind each one is God's love and wisdom. We may think that Moses got
such an Excedrin headache over the commandments that he 1. Make no mistake about it, God needs to number ONE. If you give more time, energy, or attention to anyone or anything else in your life, you cannot live the abundant life God has for you. Only when you dedicate yourself completely to God that He will transform you spirit, soul and body so you can possess your inheritance. 2. You will become like the idols you pursue and the most common are money, pleasure, power and the god of SELF. If you are a God chaser, you'll be transformed into His likeness. If you chase false images created by our secular media like American Idol or rock stars like Billy Idol, you'll end up between Iraq and a hard place. 3. When you take God's name in vain, you're debasing it, because you're treating it lightly when it should be spoken with great fear and reverence. God's name has tremendous power and speaking it actually causes things to happen in the spiritual realms. Using God to damn something or someone can set yourself up for damnation. 4. Unlike Janet Jackson, God has designed you to rest regularly as part of His Rhythm Nation. If you don't take a one day rest each week, your physical, mental, and spiritual health will suffer. If you keep the Sabbath by worshipping God and meditating, you'll discover an eternal perspective on life that will help you recharge for the rest of the week. 5. Honoring your parents is so important for it shall be whole, nothing missing, nothing broken with you if you do. God used them to give you life. If God sees you visit them often, call them, nurse them when they're sick, pay their bills, help them in any way, and forgive them for any past mistakes, He will be pleased and want to bless you as well. 6. Alfred Hitchcock may have you Dial M For Murder, but there are more ways to murder someone than physically killing that person. Anytime you hurt someone with your words or wish bad things to happen to them, you're killing them softly in your heart. Don't ask for Payback like Mel Gibson, but take your anger to God and let Him heal your soul. 7. Like murder, the seeds of adultery are sown in your mind. Don't pollute your mind with pornographic images and sinful experiences, but ask God to increase your desires for your spouse. Adultery can be enticing since it is so cool in the movies and TV shows, but like Mick Jagger, it won't give you any Satisfaction. Instead, it will destroy your relationships with God and others. Love your spouse, and don't be nothin' but a hound dog like Bill Clinton. 8. You don't need to steal from others or rob God of His tithes and offerings because God has promised to provide everything you need and you shall not want. God is a Father who loves to give good gifts to His children. He is El Shaddai, the God who is much more than enough, not El Cheapo. The law of sowing and reaping will cause others to steal much more from you if you steal. 9. When you speak
untrue or negative words against others, you're committing sins that
will inflict harm on the people God loves. But when you build them up
with your words, you become a channel of blessing through which God's
love flows, and the overflow will bless you abundantly. Spend time regularly
in His Word, worshipping and praising God 10. Covetousness or envy of what others have will destroy you. Godliness and contentment is great gain. The strain of wanting something you don't have and the burden of dealing with something you weren't meant to have can rob your life of the joy unspeakable and full of glory God intends for you.
