Thirtysomething

“But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit; some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.” (Mark 4:20)

Thirtysomething is much more than an ABC show about yuppie angst running from 1987-1991. It is the least measure of increase we can expect from God if we sow. The Bible says if we sow bountifully, we’ll reap bountifully. But if we sow plentifully, harvest the increase and sow again, we’ll be amazed at how fast it'll grow. Don’t be tempted to spend on ourselves to get that bigger house because we’re only delaying our own prosperity by doing that. When the harvest comes in, don’t eat your seed. Make giving a priority and believe God for more because our harvest in life depends entirely on what we sow (Galatians 6:7). The size of our harvest is also determined by the quality of the ground where we have sown. We know what is good ground by the fruits it produces(Matthew 7:16). If a church or ministry is yielding much fruits – getting people saved, edifying believers, preaching the Word of God daily, or helping the poor – then it’s definitely good ground and will yield a big harvest. Further, the Holy Spirit will not allow us to waste our seeds by sowing in questionable ground that’s not fertile enough to produce a harvest. It’s possible to waste seeds by sowing money or things into certain people like your in-laws or charities with high overhead that don't even preach the gospel.

Tithing is like pesticide for it is the key to our harvest being blessed. God cannot give us a harvest on our offerings if we are robbing Him by keeping the tithes, the FIRST 10% of gross income that God says is holy for it belongs to Him. Tithing is not sowing, but it opens the windows of heaven so seeds can grow supernaturally where God will rebuke the devourer or seed eater for our sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of our ground (Malachi 3:11). After tithing and sowing into good ground, many of us don’t reap much because we failed to discern our harvest. Galatians 6:9 says we must wait until due season, and due season comes by the witness of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. 1 John 2:20 says that we have an unction or anointing from the Holy Spirit, and we know all things. That anointing will enable us to sense when it’s harvest time so we can be like Prince and party like it’s 1999. The joy of harvest will increase within us (Isaiah 9:3) and we’ll have so much peace, joy unspeakable and full of glory in our hearts that we can’t even explain.

Once God shows us where the harvest is, we’ll have to take steps of faith to get it and Romans 16:26 calls such steps the obedience of faith. Many people have tithed, sowed, waited and when harvest time came they succumbed to Fear Factor and yielded to unbelief. They didn’t want to take on the expansion or do the extra work God has told them to do. They missed the blessings of God because they failed to discern their harvest. Their own lack of faith caused them to miss the place, timing and increase God had prepared for them. We also need to know the size of our harvest, which is determined by the size of our faith for the Bible says according to your faith be it unto you. If we want to enjoy our harvest, we must realize that we don’t just reap according to what we’ve sown, we reap according to our faith, and faith come by hearing, hearing by the Word of God. We serve a big God, so spend quality time meditating in His Word, not Charles Dickens, so He can give us Great Expectations. Think BIG, claim BIG, and believe BIG things for God the Father in heaven, the LORD of the harvest, is our Notorious B.I.G.
