FriendsFlee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (2 Timothy 2:22) Hollywood’s idea of Friends is the popular NBC show with Matthew Perry, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow and company where each actor is paid 1 million dollar per episode in its final season. As nice looking and well-paid as these Friends are, God has a totally different idea for the friends we make and company we keep has a tremendous influence on our spiritual life. Fellowshipping with godly people will launch us to the ecstasy of victory, while hanging out with those who are cool but ungodly like the cast of Friends will drag us to the agony of defeat. The Bible tells us to separate ourselves from the world and into the things of God because evil companions will corrupt our morals and render us powerless for the kingdom of God. If we want to walk with God like Enoch or Noah and reap His bountiful blessings, don’t choose friends who walk in the things of the world, the flesh and the devil. Don’t get too close for comfort with people who talk and act ungodly, who don’t give God any place in their lives. They’ll pull us down, and as we interact with them, they’ll send us on a one way trip to Temptation Island. We’ll get so familiar with the pleasures of sin it will start to appear enticing and eventually, we’ll fall into it hook, line and sinker. Choose our friends wisely, fellowship with those who love God and DO the Word and who are spiritual buff so they can help build us up. Take a walk on the God side, hang out with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart and tap into their righteousness, love, peace, faith and let their anointing and blessing rub off on us.
