“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted; to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year [where favors and salvation abound] of the LORD.” (Luke 4:18-19)

New York may have the Statue of Liberty, but it is the will of God to set people everywhere free. Free from sin, sickness, fear, disease, deceptions, debt, poverty, oppression and every other curse. That freedom is what Jesus came to provide through His shed Blood on the cross. Jesus trained His disciples to set people free, to heal the sick, make the lame walk, the blind see and the deaf hear and that's exactly what He wants us to do. The Bible says God never changes, and He hasn't changed His will for the earth. Jesus' life was a perfect example of God's will 2,000 years ago, and it still is today. That's why He commanded us to go and do the works that He did, and He even sent the Holy Spirit to comfort, guide, teach and empower us to do them.

Liberty Heights is not just a Barry Levinson movie about Jewish life in Baltimore in the 1950s. It is about the heights we can reach as the people of God if we learn to receive the liberty that God has for us and to set others free. Jesus still wants to do the will of God here on earth, but now He does it through us. He has to work with us until we're willing to
deny our selfish flesh, obey the Word of God, lay down our divisions, traditions and interpretations, be filled with the Holy Spirit, let go and let God. The early Church did mighty wonders because they did as Jesus taught them. Everywhere they went people were set free. Let's pray for the empowerment of the Church to deliver the liberty of God, peace and prosperity to a sin-ravaged world. We must stop debating the will of God,
be like Nike and Just Do It. Jesus said the works that He did we would do also and even greater works than He did (John 14:12). It's high time for us to pick up where Jesus left off, preach the Word, finance ministries that spread the gospel of salvation and set the captives free.
