The
Rock
Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron gather the congregation together. Speak to the rock before their eyes and it will yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and give drink to the congregation and their animals. (Numbers 20:8) The Rock is not
about Gibraltar or Prudential, a Sean Connery movie about Alcatraz or
a diamond on your wife's hand. Rather, it is a story about anger management.
The children of Israel had been traveling for days without water and
were complaining, and Moses became the focus of their frustration. Moses
sought God for wisdom and God told him to speak to the rock and water
would flow. This would show that God was still in control, that Moses
was still the leader, and that God was their provider. However, Moses was called
by God to a higher level, for he was no longer called to touch things
with his rod to perform miracles. Now he could speak to the problem
and his very words would have changed the situation. Moses' rod represented
his authority as a shepherd of the sheep and as a shepherd of the people.
Like Clinton, Moses misused his rod, he took something God wanted to
be used in a righteous manner and used it the wrong way. God Copyright © 2002 Eddy Ministries. All rights reserved. Subscribe/Unsubscribe:
