Jailhouse Rock

“But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.”(Acts 16:25)

Paul and Silas were beaten, whipped, chained, and thrown into a prison cell for preaching the gospel. In the midst of that terrible ordeal, with scars all over their bodies, they did not gripe, whine, complain, or even argue. They Whipped It Good better than Devo and turned their scars into stars. Believe it or not, even though Ripley wasn't there, they sang in the midnight hour and praised God in the midst of their suffering and God did something miraculous. Long before Jerry Lee Lewis, there was a Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On as the foundation of the prison was shaken by a great earthquake. ALL the jail doors were open, and the chains on the hands and feet of ALL the prisoners were loosed. The keeper of the prison, who awoke thinking all the prisoners had escaped, took out his sword to kill himself, because under Roman law if any prisoner were to escape, it
would mean his death. But Paul saved his life when he shouted, "Do yourself no harm, for we are all here." Upon seeing the miracle, the jailer fell down before Paul and Silas and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" and they answered, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."

That miracle happened because Paul and Silas praised God in the middle of their circumstances and the prisoners were listening. God responded to the Paul and Silas Praise and Worship Team with the original version of Jailhouse Rock that even Elvis couldn't improve on and all the prisoners were freed and the jailer and his household were saved. God not only delivered Paul and Silas, He delivered the entire prison and on top of
that brought household salvation to the jailer and his family. How about that for doing things exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20) ? We all go through the tests and trials of life. We are guaranteed to face trials because the Bible says the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. If we keep a
thankful, grateful heart in the midst of our trials, we leave the door wide open for God to perform a miracle at the midnight hour that not only deliver us but many others, and to God be all the glory.
