On the Waterfront

“Then he brought me back to the door of the temple; and there was water, flowing from under the threshold of the temple toward the east, for the front of the temple faced east; the water was flowing from under the right side of the temple, south of the altar.” (Ezekiel 47:1)

Long before Marlon Brando and Rod Steiger were On The Waterfront, the prophet Ezekiel saw in a vision the river of God’s healing waters flowing from the temple in chapter 47. He was brought through the waters until the river came up to his ankles, then his knees, then his waist. It eventually became a river so deep full of fish, healing, life and nourishment for the trees along the banks that the only way to cross it was to swim. We all should be immersed in the river of God’s Holy Spirit, allowing His blessings to flow. Maybe you are at the river’s edge, dipping your toes just to get your feet wet. Maybe you are in the river up to your ankles, or have waded out to your knees. If the water is only up to your toes, ankles, or knees, then you are only getting a little wet, and you still have a lot of your body exposed out of the water and in full view of the direct assault of the enemy.

Jesus said, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water” (John 7:38). He was speaking of the Holy Spirit who would be given to all who believed on Him. The only way for us to have more of the Holy Spirit and more of God’s blessings is to submerge in God’s river by flooding ourselves in His Word daily and yielding our lives to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. If we want restoration, prosperity, protection, if we want to know God’s will and His plan for us, then we need to get into the river. Don’t just get wet but get Wild Wild Wet for there’s a river flowing from the throne of God, and we can’t just dabble around the water’s edge. God wants us to jump in and let the river of God’s blessings flow over our entire being until we are more soaked than Adam Sandler in the Waterboy. God wants us to commit our lives to Him totally and completely, and only then will the blessings follow for God’s got peace [shalom or wholeness, nothing missing, nothing broken] like a river.
