Providence
“Get
away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which
flows into the Jordan. And it will be that you shall drink from the
brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” (1 Kings
17: 3-4).
Providence is not just the capital of Rhode Island or a TV show. It
comes from the Latin pro and video which means to see beforehand and
many attribute providence to God. To be precise, Providence is the provision
that God sees beforehand and provides when we obey Him. In fact, one
of God’s Hebrew names is Jehovah Jireh, which means the God who
sees beforehand and provides. This occured when God provided the ram
that got Abraham out of a jam in Genesis 22:14. During a severe famine,
God told Elijah, “I have commanded the ravens to feed you.”
Elijah obeyed God, and the ravens brought him bread and meat in the
morning, and bread and meat in the evening, he drank water from the
brook, and there was no fowl play. God had already sent the provision
to the Brook Cherith. If Elijah were not obedient, the provision would
have already been there, but he would have starved to death because
there was a drought and famine in the land for three long years.
Elijah
didn’t go to the Brook Cherith to get fed. He went in direct and
total obedience to God, and when he got there, provision was waiting for
him. When we reach the place of obedience to God’s Word no matter
how uncomfortable to our flesh it may be, the provision of God will be
waiting for us. We may find something that enables us to cancel all our
debts or pay our bills supernaturally. We may find a perfect job, a perfect
body, a perfect soulmate, a perfect business partner, a perfect health
all even in the middle of The Perfect Storm, or whatever we never dreamed
possible because we’ve come to the place of obedience. Are you obeying
God’s call on your life? Be like Nike and Just Do It, meditate on
and obey His Word and get to the place God has called you. Just go there
and God will do the rest for we know in His Word that He will always send
the provision over there.
