Don’t Hold On

“Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him. The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous; for he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and a great number of servants. So the Philistines ENVIED him.” (Genesis 26:12-14)

We live in a society where Hold On is the name of many songs, where our wedding vow is to have and to hold, and where divorces are fought over who gets to hold what. When times get tough, when we just lost our job, our 401K has been Enroned and the economy looks bad, it’s natural for us to want to hold on to everything we have. The Bible shows us, however, that when times get tough, holding on is the worst thing we can do. There was a famine in the land where Isaac and his family lived, but Isaac put his eyes on God, and in the midst of the famine, he sowed seed. He used his faith and trusted God as his Provider, as the LORD of the harvest. Isaac sowed SEED against his NEED and reaped a hundredfold harvest in the same year. Isaac became so rich, so blessed, and so loaded that the Philistines envied him and stopped all his wells. The lesson here is if we don’t sow, we don’t reap and since we are living in the last days where the Messiah can arrive at any moment and time is compressed, we can expect to reap rather quickly like Isaac reaping a hundredfold what he sowed in the SAME year.

When there is a NEED, you must sow a SEED so you can reap a harvest from God Almighty that will more than meet that NEED. Maybe you’re in debt up to your eyeballs or may be you are sick or oppressed by poverty, fear and lack. If you’re not doing what Isaac did, if you’re not sowing SEED out of faith into the rich soil of anointed ministries that preach and teach the uncompromised Word of God to the nations, then you don't have a right to expect God to bless you. One of the greatest things I’ve learned is how to make my entire life body, soul and spirit a seed that I sow from inspiring others by looking buff and feeling good, from a smile to a friendly conversation loaded with humor wisdom and intellect, from a prayer to these daily email devotionals. You can’t buy miracles from God, but when you sow your seed into His ministries that teach His Word, you put yourself in an enviable position where you can receive, especially in tough times. Your source is not your paycheck, your boss, the stock market, the government or the economy. In fact, your paycheck or income is the SEED that you can sow. Your source is God Almighty and He promises in Philippians 4:19 to supply ALL your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
