Lifestyles of The Rich and FamousAnd you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day [the covenant with Abraham]. (Deuteronomy 8:18) Many of us have watched the TV show hosted by Robin Leach called Lifestyles of The Rich and Famous. We see the glamorized jetset lifestyle with champagne wishes and caviar dreams, with all the luxuries money can buy. God wants us to prosper too but His idea of Lifestyles is not just so that we can hoard and display wealth for our selfish enjoyment. God wants us to use the wealth that He enables us to have to bless others according to the Abrahamic blessing of Genesis 12:1-3. God’s reason for prospering His people is not so we can wear Rolexes with designer clothes, live in mansions, throw fancy parties, and drive a fleet of Ferraris and Bentleys. Robin Leach will not tell you this, but establishing God’s covenant on earth and giving to those in need so they can receive the gospel of salvation are God’s divine purposes for prosperity. You may have been told that Jesus’ ministry was poor and He got along just fine. That’s ridiculous because throughout the Bible God promised material blessings to anyone who would walk perfectly and uprightly before Him. Abraham, Isaac, Job, Hezekiah and Solomon were all rich. If God had failed to bless Jesus financially, He would have been breaking His own Word. Jesus was a carpenter and builder equivalent to a general contractor today. He had a treasurer named Judas, there was so much money given to support His ministry He didn’t even notice that Judas was stealing, He took care of all his 12 disciples and staff of at least 70 who left all to follow him, and He wore a seamless tunic so desirable that Roman soldiers cast lots for it. Jesus was the greatest giver Who ever lived, and it’s time we started following in His footsteps. If we’ll start giving, if we’ll start using our God-given wealth to take care of people’s needs, we’ll be far more likely to win their hearts to receive the gospel, souls get saved and added to the Kingdom, and God is glorified. What’ll happen to the people of a poor nation like Somalia, El Salvador, Vietnam or Afghanistan when you fly in your private jet full of food, clothes, toys, medicine and Bibles and build orphanages, hospitals, water wells, houses, schools, churches, widows’ homes in the Name of Jesus and His love? Their hearts will melt because you put your money where your mouth is when you preach the gospel and they’ll listen to what we have to say about Jesus. It’s wrong for you not to want to prosper when that prosperity can literally mean the difference between heaven and hell for millions, if not billions, of unsaved, backslidden and lost people in the world today. Forget about your own needs, aim high and set your mind on giving to meet someone else’s, on establishing God’s covenant on earth by generously supporting ministries that preach and teach the gospel to the nations. Then keep the faith and get ready to enjoy the greatest prosperity you’ve ever known because you’ll reap what you sow, God is the LORD of the harvest and you simply cannot outgive God.Copyright © 2002 Eddy Ministries.
