The Good God

“Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You in the presence of the sons of men!” (Psalm 31:19)

Recently Hollywood just produced a movie called The Good Girl starring Jennifer Aniston as a bored working wife who commits adultery in a small town. Although there is absolutely nothing good about breaking one of the Ten Commandments, our God is a good God! The Bible is replete with verses which tell us that not only is God good but just how mighty good He is.

God’s goodness is a treasure, but it’s not just any treasure. God has something special reserved for those who trust Him and who live in total obedience to His Word which is so good that when others see it, they will not sing like Ray Charles “You’ve got the right one baby!” but they will say “You’ve got the right God, I want to have to what you have.” God’s goodness is all good, not in one way, not in one kind of goodness only, but absolutely and positively good, without beginning, without end, without conditions, without limit, without comparision, and without measure.

God shows us His infinite goodness in Malachi 3:10 when He says He will pour out such a bountiful blessing that there will not be room enough for us to receive it when we tithe and give offerings to ministries that preach and teach His Word to the nations. God is saying He will pour out His blessings on us continually until we actually have no room left to receive them. Imagine having so many houses but so little time to enjoy them, so many cars but not enough places to park them or having more shoes than Jimmy Choo or Imelda Marcos.

There’s absolutely no limit to God’s goodness, and it’s all up to our capacity to receive according to our faith in the Word of God. What are you waiting for? Ask God to help you believe Him for the goodness that He has laid up for you. Think BIG, for God is a big God and dare to believe Him for the big things of life. God is much more than a good God, and His goodness and mercy to those who fear Him and live by His Word is more than we can ever comprehend, describe or receive.
