1500 Mile

“The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs [1500 mile]. Its length, breadth, and height are equal.” (Revelation 21:16)

Eminem may have rapped his way to the bank on Veterans Day weekend with a box office smash of $54 million for 8 Mile, but God has something much better at 1500 Mile. God’s heavenly City is so real that the Bible describes its dimension, shape, colors and even the building materials. It will be a big city 1500 miles long, 1500 miles wide and 1500 miles high. (Revelation 21:10-23) Before God brings down His City, He will cleanse the earth by burning it with fire. God will then recreate a new earth with a new surface and a new atmosphere. (2 Peter 3:10-13; Revelation 21:1)

We don’t have to look for paradise because God will recreate the earth into the Garden of Eden, the Paradise of God. Then the heavenly City, the New Jerusalem, will descend from God to land on what Pearl Buck called The Good Earth. Inside the City all of God’s children will be with Him forever and if HBO is smart, it will produce God And The City. Outside the City, there will be nations of people raised from the dead and have stood before God’s Great White Throne (Revelation 20:11) and have been allowed to live in the new earth. (Revelation 21:24-26; 22:2)

When God judged these people, He saw that they were not bad enough to be cast into the lake of fire, where the wicked go for their sins. But because they had not received Jesus as Lord and Savior and His free gift of eternal life, they couldn’t go to heaven either. On the new earth, there will be no more sea (Revelation 21:1) so there will be four times as much land mass for the people to live on. No more sea, but rivers, lakes, streams and rolling hills, forests, fields, farms and villages. No more cities, Lincoln Navigators and pollution, except the City. There will be no insects, pests, thorns and thistles.

The whole creation will be heaven on earth just like God had planned from the beginning in the book of Genesis. To live in the City, all you have to do is receive Jesus into your heart here and now. Then that great, wonderful City will be your permanent residence, and you’ll be free to walk its streets of gold, enjoy its beauties and pleasures forever. You can receive Jesus as your Savior by praying this simple prayer:

“Lord Jesus, forgive me for all my sins. I believe You are the Son of God and You died for me on the cross. I open my heart and ask You to come in, fill me with the Holy Spirit and give me eternal life. Help me to love You and love others by telling them the good news about You and Your salvation. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
