“Even the stork in the heavens knows her appointed times; and the turtledove, the swift, and the swallow observe the time of their coming. But My people do not know the judgment of the LORD.” (Jeremiah 8:7)

Hollywood just produced The Four Feathers starring Heath Ledger and Kate Hudson about the British army in Africa. God too used The Four Feathers of four different kinds of birds to remind us to obey His Word. Even the migratory birds obey the laws in nature, and yet God's people will not obey Him. The swallows know when to arrive in San Juan Capistrano and when to leave. The storks know when to arrive in Israel in March and then to head north after six weeks. These birds know when to move, yet God's people, despite Jeremiah's warnings of judgment to come, don't even know
what time it is, that it's time to turn from their sinful ways and to get right with God. They don't move when God tells them to move, they don't obey God's call to get spiritual and move to higher ground in the Holy Spirit but instead they remain carnal, fixing their minds on earthly things. Instead of getting spiritual, they listened to Olivia Newton-John
and just get Physical.

Sadly, the timing of this movie tells us that the words of the weeping prophet Jeremiah applies to us today. Has God been trying to get you to turn your back on sin and spend more time with His Word, and yet you still haven't moved? Has God been trying to tell you that it's time to stop going around the same mountain of sickness, poverty, debt and oppression and to move boldly to conquer and to possess the Promised Land for His
glory? You may not be Alan Alda, but are you aware of the season in which God has placed you and the changing of The Four Seasons? Can you afford to ignore God's call to learn the Word and support the preaching of the gospel? The Four Feathers migrate in obedience to God, they know their timing and they know their master. They know when to move, and they know how long they should stay. Even Kenny Rogers The Gambler knows when to fold 'em, when to hold 'em, and when to walk away. We are God's children made in His image and likeness, so shouldn't we be smarter than The Birds
and Alfred Hitchcock? In times like these, we need to search the Bible even more to meditate on Gods' Word so we'll know our appointed times or seasons where we can play our part in fulfilling The Great Commission.
